Catching Up With Some Quite Tasty Beers

From the better-late-than-never files, I’m posting beer pictures originally taken back in November and December. Yes, the beers were all quite tasty.

Starting off with a beer I can get locally from Gordon Biersch Brewery. It’s their Märzen – a style of lager beer. The beer in the picture is courtesy of a friend who brought over a six-pack this past Thanksgiving.

Gordon Biersch Märzen. Gordon Biersch Märzen.

Quick story about the Märzen from Gordon Biersch: I was a beer neophyte before meeting wifey, and when she introduced me to the Gordon Biersch beers, I kept hearing her refer to their Märzen with the true German pronunciation, and not “Mar Zen” with the accent over the second syllable as everyone seemed to say it. When we went to our local Gordon Biersch restaurant, I ordered a “Maed Tzen” – our server didn’t understand what that was. Funny…

About 40 miles north of us, there’s San Francisco’s Anchor Brewing Company and their Anchor Steam. I drank the beer for the first time recently at a relative’s b-day party (picture below).

At the same b-day party mentioned above, I also drank for the first time Mexico’s Cerveza Pacifico Clara (better known as simply Pacifico) – a pilsner-style beer (a type of pale ale).

The three beers below were from a box that wifey and I purchased from our local Costco. First up: Italy’s Peroni Brewery and their Nastro Azzurro – a pale lager.

Nastro Azzurro Nastro Azzurro.

Next: the Czech Republic’s Pilsner Urquell – the original pilsner and first lager beer.

Wifey was quite familiar with this beer and had already known that it was the original pilsner. She’s also been to Pilsen.

And finally: Poland’s Tyskie Gronie – a pale lager.

Out of these three beers, wifey and I both liked the Tyskie Gronie from Poland the best.

In creating this post and reading the respective Wikipedia pages, I’ve learned for the first time a bit about the business of beer. Talk about big business. Makes me want to really stay local and help support the craft beer brewers in my area that are making great beer. I’ll be more mindful of doing that whenever I get the chance.

Always Grateful,

~Andy

  1. LOL at Andrea’s comment above.

I’m not a big beer-drinker, but occasionally I would be “forced” to drink some and there has been a few that made me appreciate beer a bit more. Beer-brewing is a very stylish business, I hear!
